The procedure is very simple, a cheek retractor is place around the edges of your mouth, to keep your mouth open and to keep your lips off your teeth. Your gums are then protected with a gingival barrier, following this a whitening gel is applied to your teeth. A blue LED light is placed over your teeth for 10 - 15 minutes, after which the gel is then gently removed. This process is repeated two more times. The blue LED light accelerates the activation of the gel. The entire process takes approximately one hour.
Teeth Whitening generally occurs when Hydrogen Peroxide (H202) is exposed to the dentine of a tooth (found dirrectly under the enamel). When Hydrogen Peroxide penetrates through the enamel, pigment found in the dentine tube oxidizes rendering a white finish, which is reflected through the translucent enamel.
